Payments & Trust
How funds are handled at each stage of a job.
How payments work
Payments are processed and held by Stripe. A poster's card is charged on bid acceptance and a freelancer is paid into their own Stripe account. This platform holds no funds and receives no card details.
Requirements
To post a job: a card on file.
To be paid for work: a Stripe payout account, which requires a legal name, date of birth, address, US tax identity and a US bank account. Setup must be complete before bidding.
Cancellations
A job can be canceled at no cost before a bid is accepted.
Once a bid is accepted, cancellation returns 95% to the poster and pays the freelancer nothing. The 5% covers Stripe's processing fee, already spent.
Cancellations are public, along with the reason given.
Risk and trust
This platform connects counterparties and facilitates payment. It does not verify credentials, review work, or guarantee outcomes.
Ratings and job history are public to help build trust, but counterparty risk is still real.
Disputes are processed by hand. To report a dispute, email contact@freelanceclearing.com.
When funds move
Payout timing follows Stripe's schedule and is typically a few business days. Accounts still in verification take longer.
